A huge thank you to everyone who helped out with the Ukraine backpack drive! We started out with 55 empty backpacks and ended up with 13 large boxes of full backpacks and a bunch of extra supplies! It took us a while to get them all packed up and sent out, but we finally got them on their way! With the interest stirred up by the backpack project, we are looking expectantly to the next thing, and we are excitedly seeking anyone who would be interested in making a trip to Ukraine this summer! This trip will consist of a few days of community outreach in the village of Kaharlyk, where we visited in the summer of 2015. This will mainly be helping our friend Wayne Zschech, a lifelong missionary to Ukraine, with his city cleanup project called “Clean Soul, Clean City.” The benefit of this work will be twofold: cleaning up the city as well as providing fuel for Wayne’s pyrolysis project.
After that we will head into Odessa to take part in one of Nasledie Heritage Foundation’s summer camps for orphans. Here we will be serving in a variety of ways, including manning the prayer tent, sports activities, crafts, leading short Bible time messages for the team devotions, creative bible lessons, mime, being camp photographer, and more. Basically any way that a person can help will be appreciated at these huge camps. The trip is being planned for June 14-25, and the cost will be around $650 per person plus airfare which runs about $1300 per person. So we are thinking about $2000 per person, and we are hoping that we can do some fund raising to help reduce that cost for everyone who is interested in coming. Please contact us if you are interested in coming. Also, if you are unable to come but would like to donate or to help with fund raising, please contact us or the church office. More information will be coming as we get the finer details worked out. Thanks again for all your generosity in sending backpacks to at-risk children in Ukraine! Thanks to you they will have a warmer and easier winter, and the blessing of knowing that someone cares for them.
